Major Peter Badcoe – Victoria Cross Vietnam – EzineMark

British Military Medals- Victoria Cross. Highest award for Bravery

Peter Badcoe was born on January 11th, 1934, in Adelaide, where he grew up and attended school. He went into public service in South Australia and served as a clerk. Peter served in the 16th National Service Battalion for 7 weeks during 1952. Peter entered the OCS (Officer’s Cadet School) at Portsea, Victoria on July 12th of that year. He graduated successfully on the 13the of December, 1952, and was commissioned 2nd Lieutenant.

Peter was assigned to the Royal Regiment, Australian Artillery. Peter served for approximately three years as a third grade general staff officer with the Directorate of Military Operations and Plans at the Army Headquarters. In the summer of 1965, Peter transferred to the Infantry Division and his promotion to Major saw him assigned to the Infantry Center at Ingleburn, New South Wales.

It was in August, 1966, that Peter was assigned to the Australian Army Training Team Vietnam. His assignment was that of Sector Operations Officer in Thua Thien Province, South Vietnam. In his roll as an advisor, Peter was involved with the training and operations of the Ruff Puffs in his district. “Ruff Puffs” was a nickname given by American troops to members of the South Vietnam Regional Forces and Popular Forces (RFPF). His duties would normally be in planning, staff work, and liaison, but as was the case with many advisors, he would often take advantage of the leeway given to advisors and lead his forces into action. One such situation came about on February 23, 1967.

While acting as advisor to a regional force company involved in sector operations at Phu Tho, he caught a radio transmission advising of the death of an American advisor, and the wounding of an American medic. It was at this time that Peter, disregarding his own safety, sprinted the more than 600 meters across the bullet swept zone to attend to the injured medic and secured his safety. He then led a platoon in attacking the machine gun emplacement, killing the gunners, and recovered the body of the fallen American advisor, and sprinted back to his command post, all the while taking enemy fire.

It was but two weeks later, while deployed to Quang Dien with the Sector Reaction Force countering a Viet Cong attack on the sector headquarters, Peter, who was away from the command group due to the break down of their vehicle, joined the headquarters forces. He personally led the forces over open ground to capture the heavily fortified enemy position. His actions of that day prevented the capture of the district headquarters by the Viet Cong, and certainly prevented heavy casualties.

It was exactly a month to the day later, on April 7th, 1967, that Peter would commit his final act of valor. He was with the 1st Army, Republic of Vietnam Reaction Company in Huong Tra when they came under heavy enemy fire. Peter and his radio operator were left some 50 meters ahead of the force when they retreated back to a cemetery to take cover. He ran back to the company position among the graves, all the while taking enemy fire.

He rallied his troops to counter attack, but they were again stopped by heavy enemy fire. Peter stood to toss a grenade at the enemy position, but was pulled back down by his radio operator, who was trying to save Peter’s life. Again he stood, but this time was his last, as he was killed by enemy rifle fire. Allied artillery later assaulted the enemy positions and ended the battle. Peter Badcoe was buried at the Terendak cemetery in Malaysia.

In addition to the Victoria Cross, Peter was also awarded the Australian Active Service Medal, Vietnam Medal, United States Silver Star with Oak Leaf (awarded twice), National Order of the Republic of Vietnam (Knight), Republic of Vietnam Gallantry Cross with Palm, Gold Star and Silver Star (three awards), Republic of Vietnam Armed Forces Honor Medal, First Class, Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal.

Peter left behind his wife, Denise, to whom he was wed on the 26th of May, 1956, and their three daughters, who presented his medals to the Australian War Memorial for display in the Hall of Valour.

The Premium Hair Masking Technique with Advanced Tools

There are many touchy skills that a photo processing editor must possess to be a master of his craft. One is to know extraction method. It is done with selection and for any editor the end result will determine if he knows his craft well. If he is not able to extract the stuff, the imperfection will not be able to support the other montage it is being done for. Take for example a racecourse where a shot of horse in motion has been captured. The picture of the majestic animal can become the talk of the town only if the flying mane and bushy tail does not look out of place or unruly. The premium hair masking technique with advanced tools can be the best solution. With the new software tools the extraction is much easier and hair removal can be a better process. The rest of the elements, which may prove to be frail and important to the main artwork, can be left untouched. Just like human hair is a tad difficult to be masked so is the case with any animal’s fur coat. It could be a picture of a horse racing towards its final line at the derby or a dachshund playing Frisbee in the park, or a Cocker Spaniel being splashed with water. Each has the same problem. How can the fuzzy strands be stopped from flying in different directions and spoiling the look of the picture? While it is easier to control human beings being shot, the same cannot be said about animals that have a mood of their own.

The first job is to select the portion of the image and encircle the problematic hair. It is very obvious that one cannot erase single strands of hair. And each strand also cannot be masked in several layers. So a part of the image has to be selected and extracted. This procedure begins with the Quick selection tool. A loose area is encircled as the first step. Since the area is loosely selected the edges have to be refined. The smart radius option is used if solid background objects have to be tackled around. A dark background is actually useful for a wisp of hair to be treated with the hair masking technique. It can also work well in case of fibers or upholstery that needs to be tamed. The editor will have to decontaminate the colors. This tool will be able to make the edges vanish where the background may still have a trace of an unwanted strand of hair. Using the refine edge can be the key to making the successful transition from the bad patch to the brand new montage set. A preview is essential. Essential toggling between various views will help the editor to move on with the process.

While working each editor will realize that one kind of process may not be right every image. He has to find a middle-of-the-road approach to each new hair masking technique. This way he will be able to turn every challenge into an opportunity.

Comfortable Fashion with Punjabi Suits – wear – EzineMark

Fashion changes every fortnight to say the very least. So many women like to fill up their wardrobe with the latest fashion and do away with the old to stay in line with the latest trends. Women have various styles to experiment with. The range extends from jeans to skirts, and traditional to western wear. Of all the attires that the women in India have been sporting, punjabi suits have remained constant though with adaptations that lend a more contemporary & urban look in many cases. Salwar Kameez emerges as an evergreen and most preferred wear for women across generations and cultures. This attire is no longer categorized as a typical traditional wear and fit for conservative women. The modern woman has incorporated this style in her daily life. Today, salwar kameez are worn for formal as well as casual occasions. Moreover, many working women opt for salwar kameez as a comfortable office wear option.

As fashion has evolved over the years, punjabi suits have seen many alterations. However, basic concept of the attire remains untouched. The kameez forms the upper part of the suit and the salwar is the bottom. The duo is combined with a chunni or dupatta. Kameez is mostly knee length or sometimes lower whereas salwar stretches down till the ankles.

The variety of styles that we see in punjabi suits have come through experiments with their necklines, kameez length, the bottom circumference (making it either broad or narrow), sleeves etc. In effort to make a salwar kameez a bolder outfit, the traditional wear was clubbed with styles like low backs, shorter kameez, off- shoulder styles and much more. The other kind of styling includes salwar kameez in different materials and in combination of materials with hand crafted work. This styling has definitely given salwar kameez a new fashion arena to explore and has qualified the attire to more modern style of dressing than a typical Indian wear.

Sarees may seem to be the more famous and loved Indian wear, but salwar kameez provides much more comfort than a saree actually can. Unlike sarees, Punjabi Salwar Kameez combinations are easier to wear, especially on busy office days. Their versatility makes them ideal to be worn at any occasion. Not only they are easier to carry but hassle free to maintain as well. Also, this attire is perfect for any season. The styling of the attire makes it comfortable to be worn for a long time as well. As they are available in various materials like cotton, silk, organza etc., you can take your pick and dress as you like. However, cotton punjabi suits are best for Indian climate most time of the year. Artistic embroidery & thread work makes this traditional Punjabi wear even more attractive and long lasting in the Indian women fashion collection.

Moreover, punjabi suits are perfect for any body type. Often women refrain from indulging in particular fashion trends as they do not suit their body type. Also, this ethnic Indian attire can be styled to enhance your pluses and hide your flaws. So if you are lean or on the healthier side a customised salwar kameez will make sure you look your best.

Punjabi suits can now be bought online as well. Latest styles and fashions are exhibited on the websites of leading manufacturers; thus, giving you the ease of shopping online from the comfort of your home.

Handicapping a Wide-Open Kentucky Derby Field – EzineMark

May 22, 2014 By Leave a Comment
Shackleford – game 2nd place finish in the Florida Derby where he ran on the front and put away the other early speed in To Honor and Serve and Soldat, narrowly missing holding off Dialed In by a head. He won his maiden over the Churchill Downs surface in his maiden last year, so he is proven over the surface. With odds that are likely to be 15-1 or higher, he could be a very inviting value play. Strongly consider.
Stay Thirsty – ran a stinker in the Florida Derby with no excuses after climbing his way up the ladder by winning the Gotham at Aqueduct. His high Beyer Speed figure of 89 is not even close to what it will take to win the Derby. Regal breeding out of Bernardini makes him eligible to run all day long. Still, would have to take a giant step forward off a horrible race. Can’t see it happening.
Derby Kitten – snuck in the race at the last minute due to the defection of Toby’s Corner. Last seen running a close 2nd in the Grade II Lexington at Keeneland. Improving Beyer Speed figures are an encouraging sign. On the not so bright side, his lone dirt start was beyond dismal, and runners coming over from the poly track at Keeneland have made no mark on the Derby since the track switched over from dirt. Likely 50-1 shot and deservedly so.
Soldat – Fountain of Youth winner decided not to show up in the Florida Derby while trying to stalk the early pace, and hated having dirt thrown in his face. His early speed which was earlier thought to be a detriment may however work to his advantage with the defection of several early speed types such as The Factor and J.P.’s Gusto. Has shown that he relishes running in the slop, and with rain forecast for Saturday, he may get a chance to prove it again. Interesting.
Brilliant Speed – last seen in the Blue Grass at Keeneland where he showed a brilliant late turn of foot to capture the race. Yet another with poor dirt form that will make him a likely long-shot. Consider as an underlay in your exotics, and maybe a win bet if his odds soar over 20-1.
Twice the Appeal – tries to take the Mine That Bird route of Sunland Derby to the Run for the Roses. Unlike Mine That Bird, Twice the Appeal won the race over heavily favored Astrology. The dark bay 3 year-old son of Successful Appeal also has one other distinct advantage that Mine That Bird had, jockey Calvin Borel at the reigns, who has won 3 out of the last 4 Derbies. The 89 last race Beyer Speed figure he earned would make him a 50-1 longshot in almost any other Derby year, but with likely favorite’s Dialed In only running to a 94 Beyer last out and Borel in the irons, look for his odds to drop from the morning line. If he get a good post position, you can almost assure yourself that Borel will give him a clean and efficient trip. Intriguing.
Decisive Moment – this dark bay 3 year-old sired by With Distinction is a consistent sort of fellow. He’s proven he likes the slop at Churchill Downs when he drilled a 47.40 4-furlong workout on April 17th. He was last seen at the Grade III Spiral at Turfway where he ran a credible 2nd earning an 88 Beyer Speed figure on the poly track. Does not have the pedigree top or bottom to get the classic distances, but if he gets a favorable post and a clean trip he probably has as good of a chance as any of the others, especially if the early speed is drawn wide of him. But take note of his great-great grand-sire, Secretariat, who most certainly could get the classic distances and a helluva lot more. At 50-1 or over, why not give it a short dollar try? If he channels his great-great grandaddy he could come home a winner on the first Saturday in May.

Classic European Cars of the 1950s – EzineMark

May 18, 2014 By Leave a Comment

The 1950s saw European car manufacturers turn out some of their most celebrated and memorable models, particularly from those car builders located in Germany, France and Italy.

The cars built in Germany of this period were a sign of the economic miracle the country was enjoying as it built itself up following the end of the Second World War.

Two companies which built classic European cars of the 1950s in Germany were Mercedes Benz and Volkswagen. Having launched the W186 and W189 at the beginning of the decade, Mercedes Benz went onto produce what has been described as the greatest car they ever built – the 300S.

Launched in 1952 this wonderful car was followed up by the limited edition 300SC, complete with fuel injection and also featured independent rear suspension. By the end of the 1950s Mercedes produced the ultimate in luxury models with the Fintail, which incorporated a crumple zone, disc brakes and air suspension.

Another German car manufacturer to survive the ravages of war and become part of the countries economic miracle was Volkswagen. The Volkswagen Type 1 or “Beetle” was destined to become hugely popular during the 1950s and well beyond. Production of the VW Beetle reached one million in 1955 and it was to be a top seller in the United States.

In France a classic European car of the 1950s was the Citroen 2CV. Sold mainly in France and within Europe the 2CV was by no means the most majestic of cars, but it was to become one of the most loved and iconic cars ever built by a French manufacturer.

High import taxes and the fact the 2CV, to some, looked ugly, meant the model never enjoyed big sales in the UK or United States. It took a futuristic style of Citroen – the DS designed by Flaminio Bertoni – for the French company to makes its name on the American market.

In Italy Lancia is a famous name for the production of classic cars during the 1950s. In 1950 Lancia launched the Aurelia, famed for its success in motor sport, at the Turin motor show. By 1953 Lancia had added the Appia to its range.

Lancia’s great Italian rivals were Alfa Romeo. Alfa Romeo were to start the 50s with the production of such classics as its 1900 Saloon, the company’s first assembly line model. Later models which were to become Alfa Romeo classics were the Giulietta, rolled out in 1954, and a year later the Berlina – four door saloon- and the Spider Cabriolet.

77 secrets of love by alexandra fox book review – EzineMark

May 16, 2014 By Leave a Comment

Do you really feel like you’ll by no means ever discover accurate like? Have you been in like in the past however it ended bitterly and now you suspect that it may not have been the real factor after all? Are you drained of assembly bachelor after bachelor but nonetheless remaining unable to uncover that accurate connection?

The reality is that accurate like is some thing that eludes many males and ladies, but this does not cease us from chasing after it.

Ever because mankind came into becoming, like has inspired holidays, songs, dances, publications, motion pictures, Television exhibits and practically everything it can lay its furry, mushy and cuddly hands on.

In case you are drained of shelling out Valentine’s eating ice cream in entrance of the Television alone or giving dirty appears to each and every single few that passes by, then it may be time to re-fuel your search for accurate like.

Love your self

Have you heard the tune The Greatest Like of All? If not, then go on the net and download it now. Certain, it is extremely corny, but it is the easiest testimony to the importance of self-love. By selflove, we are not referring to vanity or narcissism of course.

The bottom line is: how can you expect another person to love you if you cannot even love yourself? Loving yourself means taking care of yourself by eating the right food, getting enough rest, pumping up your blood with exercise and generally ensuring your well-being.

It means going to the salon for that makeover, relaxing at the spa, spending hours at the bookstore, going on a day-long shopping spree, climbing the Himalayas, learning scuba diving and basically anything in the world that you enjoy and makes you happy.

Loving yourself means enjoying your life to the fullest. No man wants to be with a woman who’s completely dependent and always needs to be saved.

Have realistic standards

Many women pattern their idea of true love after harlequin romances or Hollywood movies and this can be detrimental to your love life.
