The History Of Honda RC45 Motorcycle – EzineMark

The Honda RVF750R RC45 was a fully faired racing motorcycle created for homologation purposes for the Superbike World Championship by Honda Racing Corporation. The RVF750R was the successor to the VFR750R RC30. Like its predecessor, the RVF750R featured a DOHC liquid cooled V4 4-stroke engine and a single-sided swingarm with gear driven cams, but unlike the RC30 it utilized electronic fuel injection, in a setup very similar to the production 1992 NR750. The US spec engine had a 749.2cc capacity and was rated at 101 horsepower; the European version was rated at 118 horsepower. A simple rewire modification to the PGM-FI box increased power in the US engine up to the 118 hp. It was manufactured and sold in limited numbers from 1994 until 1999, being replaced by the VTR1000R SP-1 RC51 in 2000. Unlike the VFR750R RC30 and VFR750F from which the engine was originally derived the gear drive for the cams was moved from the centre of the engine in between the cylinders to the one side allowing a slighter narrower engine.

The RC45 has its roots from the original 1982 Honda V-four 750, introduced on the 1982 Honda Sabre. Then in 1986, the 2nd generation V-four arrived in the form of the VFR750F (RC24), fixing the camshaft problem that plagued the original V-four and moving to gear driven cams. In 1988, the RC30 was born, loosely based on the RVF endurance racer, and this was used to contest the newly formed Superbike World Championship. Only 300 were imported into the US for only one year, 1990. Then, in 1994, with the RC30 showing its age and being handily beaten by the Ducatis, Honda redesigned the RC30 using more of the technology from the RVF endurance racer and released the RC45 to much fanfare. Only 200 were manufactured world wide and per AMA homologation rules 50 were imported into the US, with approximately 20 of them going to private race teams; it is estimated only 20 examples are left in the US. It is one of the rarest motorcycles produced by Honda. In its peak race form, in 1999, the RC45 made over 190 hp, with some calling it the best Superbike machine ever. Later in its career HRC heavily modified the bike to keep it competitive including new exhaust systems and switching back to a standard two-sided swingarm for increased strength on non-endurance bikes. The RC51 was released in 2000 to make use of the 250cc displacement advantage for V-twin motorcycles that allowed the Ducatis to be so competitive.

The RC45 was shadowed with problems when first released on the World Superbike championship. This did not bode well with Honda, who entered the World Superbike championship with full factory support, not just privateer support that they gave to teams with the RC30. Castrol was the major sponsor of the RC45, and Honda came to win. The RC45 only won one World Superbike championship with American John Kocinski when he won the 1997 FIM Superbike World Championship. Jim Moodie from a standing start, on an RC45 Honda lapped in 18:11.4 seconds, 124.45 mph in the 1999 Isle of Man TT. Miguel Duhamel won the 1995 US AMA Superbike and the 1996 Daytona 200 on an RC45. Miguel came in 2nd in 1996 and 2nd again 1997 on the RC45, then a season ending crash in 1998 injured his leg. However, Ben Bostrom won the 1998 AMA Superbike Championship on an RC45. If there was ever a bike that really had a reputation to live up to it was Honda’s RC45; after the success of the RC30, the RC45 really had to pull out all stops. Part of the success story of the RC30 was that it was a hand-built race bike that was available at a cost that many club racers could afford, so even though the number of victories in World Super Bike were only a few, (enough to win two titles though) The bike really excelled at a level where up until now only very expensive works bikes could have any chance of competing towards the front end of a race field. The Grand National Hero Maori Venture – EzineMark

When Maori Venture won the Grand National in 1987 it was his first and last appearance in the Aintree race. Sired by St Columbus out of Moon Venture, he was bred by Welsh publican Dai ‘Maori’ Morgan, so nicknamed because of his ventures to New Zealand where he played rugby. The horse won a Taunton bumper at the age of five, at odds of 50-1, and under his new owner Major Jack Rubin was sent to Jim Old for training. His first notable win over fences was in the Mandarin Chase at Newbury on New Year’s Eve 1984.

His owner’s death meant he was sold on at the Ascot sales, where he was bought by Marlborough trainer Andrew Turnell on behalf of Mr Joel for 17,000 guineas. Not long after the sale Maori Venture won four races at Lingfield, but on the run up to the 1987 Grand National he showed very mixed form, and gathered himself a bit of a reputation as an unsafe jumper. While he came third in the Hennessy Cognac Gold Cup, won the Mandarin Chase for the second time and was runner-up in Sandown’s Grand Military Gold Cup, he was also unplaced in one race and fell in another – falling in the run up to the National is never a good thing, and many began to believe that there was no way that he would manage the Aintree fences with their formidable reputation.

Mr Joel; whose previous entry to the National, Door Latch was well fancied, but ended up falling at the first fence; entered Maori Venture almost resigned to the fact that he wasn’t going to do well. He went off twelfth in the betting at 28-1, ridden by Steve Knight. The gelding didn’t do anything special on the first circuit, in fact it was a wonder he stayed standing considering his nose touched the ground on landing after Becher’s Brook, but he managed to see it through. The second circuit saw him transform – he started jumping with precision, something he had never previously done, and started to increase his pace. He began closing on the leaders which included Lean Ar Aghaidh who was demonstrating excellent jumping form, and by the last he joined The Tsarevich – he won from them by four and five lengths respectively. The favourite West Tip, the previous year’s winner, came fourth while second favourite Dark Ivy had suffered a fatal fall at the first Bechers.

Maori Venture achieved the then third fastest time on record in the National and gave his owner Mr Joel his big race double – he had won the 1967 Epsom Derby with Royal Palace – the ninety-two year old had started trying to win the National in 1957. When he found out that he had won the National he was in mid flight from South Africa to England, and declared at the celebrations the following day that Maori Venture was to retire to Childwick Stud – he left him in his will to Steve Knight, his winning jockey.

Brangus Cattle Breeders: History & Benefits – EzineMark

Did you know that before the American Civil War in 1861, beef was not traditionally served with meals? In fact, it wasn’t until the end of World War II that beef became a staple in the American diet. In fact, cattle breeders all over the country focus on breeding the perfect-tasting beef cattle. The Brangus variety is one of the highest meat yielding types of cattle. Over the years, Brangus cattle breeders have perfected the breed to make to produce some of the highest quality beef and milk available.

Brangus Cattle Breeders: A Brief History

A Brangus cow or heifer is the result of breeding a Brahman Bull and an Angus Cow. Ideally, the genetic makeup of a Brangus is supposed to be 3/8th Brahman and 5/8th Angus. Brangus cattle breeders need to ensure that the cattle are naturally polled, which means that the breed should remain hornless throughout breeding.

The first Brangus cattle breeders’ organization was chartered in 1949; however, efforts to breed a Brangus began well before that in 1912. It was around this time that the quest to breed the perfect cattle was undertaken by ranches in America and Canada. They aimed at developing a beef that mixed the hardiness of the Brahman with the superior qualities of an Angus cow. So, the American Brangus Breeders Association was formed, which was later rechristened the International Brangus Breeders Association (IBBA).

Following the formation of the association, certain regulations were put down to standardize the breed and maintain the quality of the beef and milk produced.

Benefits Offered by Brangus Cattle Breeders

Brangus cattle breeders offer many advantages over their counterparts, since this variety of cattle is the result of breeding two superior breeds. The major benefits include:

1. Their “turn-off” age is about 30% lower than other cattle.

2. Breeders have the advantage of being able to sell superior quality meat and milk.

3. The cattle are highly fertile, so increasing their numbers is easy.

4. Breeders rarely have to worry about diseases, since the breed is hardy and resistant to most of the common cattle diseases.

5. Calving problems are eliminated with this cattle type, thereby saving the breeder a lot of time and unnecessary trouble.

6. They have high parasite and heat tolerance and can therefore be raised even under the harshest conditions.

Andrew Evans – Racing – EzineMark

January 16, 2015 By Leave a Comment
Many know Andrew Evans as the racecar driver who has lead his team (Team Scandia) to many significant victories during the years between 95 and 97. Before he became famous he was like any other young driver who was trying hard to become a professional racecar driver.

Andrew Evans relationship with racing began in the year 1963. It was during that year that he witnessed his first Can-Am race. He was not alone as there were many boys at that time who shared his love for racing. However, he was among the few who had both the talent and the determination to turn his dream into reality.

It was during 80s that Andrew Evans started his career. Since he did not have any financial support during this period, he was forced to do even the most routine tasks by himself. He filled out long administrative forms and looked after his engine maintenance. These chores did not give him the pleasure or the excitement that he got from racing, however he did them dutifully. The fact that racing was both a sport and a business did not go down well with many young drivers. So they gave up their dreams. Evans however had the talent to survive in both sides of the industry.

Andrew Evans during this period had to find ways of supporting himself, so that he could crisscross the country and compete in numerous racing events. Learning more about the automotive industry was something he also wanted to do. In order to reach both these goals, he started his own business called Scandia Engineering. It was a small automotive company that had its base in Redwood Washington. The company looked after the restoration needs of the automotive enthusiasts who lived in the region.

In the year 1990 after paying his dues for many years, Evans was allowed to become a member of the International Motor Sports Association. Becoming a member had opened a door of opportunities to him. Being a member of the Camel GT Lights class allowed him to race at Le Mans, Daytona, and other famous tracks. This allowed him to build for him a respectable reputation among both experienced and new drivers.

With years of experience in both the equestrian and fashion industries, I have always taken inspiration from what’s happening now on the runway to the ring. As a rider myself it is always good to get tips from fellow riders. Here is a short list of tips that will do some good when out riding.

1. Always wear a helmet when riding, keep your head protected at all times.

2. Mount your horse correctly it will encourage him/her to stand still.

3. Make sure you do some kind of stretching before riding. It will help you in the long run.

4. Be kind with your horse he/she will appreciate the kindness and learn not to resist you.

5. Always reward your horse positively – he/she will be more open to listening to your commands.

6. Take time to watch others perform, learn from their techniques and mistakes.

7. If you hire a professional trainer, make sure they are accredited and have a good reputation among your equestrian community.

8. Always practice loading your horse before you go on a long trip.

9. Always have a first-aid kit available, you never know when you’ll need it. It’s always better to be safe than sorry.

10. Give your horse a nice brushing daily (or as often as you can) he/she will love it and look good at the same time.

I hope you take these tips and use them when riding. Your horse is your friend, guide, and partner. Always treat your horse with respect. Know that your horse carries your life in his/her hands.

You should always consult with a professional if you are having issues with your horse. Know that practice makes perfect and that we all have our limits. Horses included. Safety should be your number one priority when riding. Always make sure you are wearing the proper gear when riding. You wouldn’t ride a motorcycle without a helmet would you? Don’t ride your horse without one either.

Drag Racing Car Numbers & Dial-Ins – EzineMark

January 12, 2015 By Leave a Comment

Over the weekend I was asked to help out in the drag strip’s tower as one of the workers had a relative who was seriously ill. They helped me try and learn the system with a crash course in it. Being in the tower gave me a new perspective of racing and made me appreciate more the hard job they have up there, especially working with the computer system they have.

One thing I noticed that is a big problem, is being able to read the car numbers and dial in’s. They sit approximately 80 feet from the line I’m guessing and trying to read shoe polish and people’s writing from that distance is a real challenge even with binoculars! Most regular racers do a good job, but there are some that are so bad, we have to ask the starter to tell us and that can hold up the race.

For those who do not race often, please understand how important it is that the tower be able to read your car number and dial in. It needs to be written on the top right side of your windshield and on the right side of your car, on the window if it’s a door car. They need to be written on the right side of a dragster and bike as well, not just on the windshield. The numbers need to be big enough, dark enough and legible. Some just slap on one coat of shoe polish for the night and it can’t be read from that distance. Please go over your numbers a few times with the polish and make sure it’s dark enough and written big enough. Using white or bright yellow or green polish is preferred over red and blue, especially at night. If you are using led lights, make sure they are turned up during the day and turned down a little at night.

If the numbers are put on the side of a dragster or bike they should be a contrasting color to the paint. Having numbers matching the color scheme of the car or written in script look real pretty, but they are extremely hard to see from the tower especially at night. Metallic numbers also are hard to read at night with the glare of the track lights.

Another issue are cars that have more than one car number on them. This is where a car may have more than one driver who has a permanent number. Make sure that the number(s) not being used are clearly marked out. You cannot see one swipe of shoe polish from the tower. Use a piece of black electrical tape or something that draws a line clearly through the number not being used so the tower knows which car number you want to use.

I have learned how important being able to read those numbers are and realize I need to make my car’s number bigger. Keep in mind, that if the people in the tower cannot read the numbers, they have to ask the starter to read it to them and that holds the cars up on the line as they have to enter the info then or re-enter incorrect info. That all takes time causing the hold up. So be considerate of those in the tower doing their best to get numbers right and remember to always check your dial in before you stage.

Cold Weather Effects on Heart and Circulatory System – EzineMark

January 8, 2015 By Leave a Comment

Your body’s reaction to heat loss is involuntary and driven by the hypothalamus, the tiny gland in the brain acting as a thermostat. The hypothalamus is very sensitive to any temperature variation in your body. Even a small drop brings the temperature regulation mechanisms into action: blood vessels in the skin constrict to prevent excessive heat loss and muscles shiver to create heat.

The hypothalamus is a cruel gland, though. Its only concern is to keep the vital organs at an acceptable temperature, and couldn’t care less if your toes or fingers became icicles. All of the thermoregulation mechanisms are designed to protect the core.

To guarantee wellbeing, the body’s core temperature needs to be maintained at around 36.9°C. What comprises the core? It includes all the vital organs such as heart, lungs, liver and kidneys central to your body. Because the brain is also important for your survival, it is part of the core despite being nowhere near the centre.

Surrounding the core is the periphery. It includes the skin, the muscles, arms and legs. Shake the hands of someone on a cold day and you’ll find out that the temperature of the periphery can be well below the core temperature icy-cold hands. However, a cold periphery is quite natural and, to a degree, an advantage. You constantly lose heat to a cooler environment until the periphery reaches the same temperature, and then the heat flow stops and you preserve heat.

This has its limits. The problems begin when the surroundings have a very low temperature. In this case, the temperature exchange between your body and the environment doesn’t stop and your core temperature starts to drop. Women have an advantage over men in that respect because their skin generally reaches a slightly lower temperature, so they have less heat to lose.

Every person reacts differently to thermal stress. Age, fitness level and underlying diseases play a major part in someones reaction. In addition, cold reactions are not Your teeth chatter, your body shivers and despite all efforts, you can’t prevent it. The tiny hairs on your body stand upright and try desperately to function as an insulating fur. Your skin looks bloodless and feels cold. All these reactions are an attempt by your body to preserve heat, although not a very successful one. Humans are well equipped to lose heat, but are less efficient in retaining it.

Necessarily associated with wintry conditions, as a sharp temperature drop in summer may have similar effects. Cold snaps bring relief from stifling heatwaves, but the cardiovascular system has not much time to adjust to the rapid temperature change and is, therefore, subjected to immense stress.

What are the effects on our cardiovascular system?

When blood vessels constrict to preserve heat, the heart has to work harder to squeeze blood through the narrow vessels. This may be too much for a sick heart. Surveys of blood donors revealed that blood pressure rose markedly after temperature drops. Published figures showed increases of between 12 and 18mmHg. While such an increase is not significant for a healthy person, it is sometimes a deciding factor for a person suffering already from high blood pressure.

Further, a heart under strain needs a high volume of oxygen-rich blood. However, narrow vessels do restrict the supply and symptoms of angina could develop. The British Heart Foundation defines angina as: Angina is an uncomfortable feeling or pain in the chest. If it is a cold day or if you are walking after a meal, the angina may be triggered more easily.

Lower temperatures also change the composition of the blood. The change is almost immediate and persists for up to two days. The number of particles in the blood, such as platelets, red blood cells, fibrinogen and cholesterol, increases in cold conditions and make the blood thicker (increased viscosity). Some tests showed an increase in viscosity by up to 21%. The risk of blood clotting increases and, together with the high viscosity, may lead to blocked blood vessels in the heart, brain or lungs.

If this is not enough to make you sick, add a little overexertion. Any physical activity is good for your body, but in moderation. Slow down if you suspect or know of problems with your heart or circulation. Shoveling snow off your footpath, or any other strenuous activity, together with the cold effect on your body, can be a lethal combination. Hospital emergency departments register a significant increase of patient numbers after heavy snowfall.

Data collected from patients fitted with heart rhythm regulators (defibrillators) gave some proof of the relationship between weather extremes and heart diseases. When scientists compared the result with climate, they found that heart rhythm abnormalities are more frequent on days with either very high or very low outside air temperatures. Some patients reacted immediately to temperature changes, others reactions were delayed by two to three days.

While there is no more doubt that cold weather increases the risk of heart or circulatory disease, the question remained whether the link is only present in cold climate regions. Not so; cold is relative. The mortality rate during Hawaii’s winter increases by 22 per cent, a figure similar to some cold climate regions.

The relationship between weather extremes and mortality rates is well documented. Extreme heat or cold increases the number of heart attacks dramatically. Winter is the season for heart attacks in the US and the UK, with around 50 per cent more cases than during summer. Two studies conducted in New Zealand put the winter CHD mortality peak at 33 to 35 per cent above the summer low. Based on an annual average of 10,500 heart disease deaths (New Zealand Heart Foundation), the difference between the best rate in summer and the worst rate in winter is 3,500 excess deaths most, if not all, are preventable.

Avoiding the cold is obviously the best prevention, but not always practical. Life has to go on and work has to be done but safely. The less time you are exposed to the cold the less chance you have of being injured or getting ill.

Awareness is just as important as avoidance. Be aware of the weather and bioweather forecasts – be prepared.

Powering Up With The Right Muscle Building Methods

January 5, 2015 By Leave a Comment

Keeping fit doesn't imply you have got to turn into an exercise buff or a vegan! Use these following fitness suggestions to add activity that you can handle in your daily life. Being fit is a lifelong goal and regardless of if you have fallen off the fitness van, you can jump back on!

Consult with a pro before attempting a new exercise with a hand grip dynamometeror machine. Doing an exercise or using a machine improperly can annul any benefits you might get from it. Worse than that, you can occasionally even harm yourself, possibly causing persistent problems.

Cardiovascular training is another vital piece of the total fitness puzzle. Cardio exercise – exercise that raises the heart rate and respiration – burns calories, improves performance and makes a contribution to overall fitness and health. In reality it's no exaggeration to claim that cardio is the most highly efficient sort of exercise for keeping fit – although it should not be anyone’s sole form of exercise.

A high calorie diet will make allowances for you to completely exploit your workout. You'll be utilising the calories to provide energy and make your workout last for longer. This can permit your muscles to grow because the extreme workout causes tiny tears and once healed makes the muscles stronger and also enlarge in size.

Using free weights is a time tested method of improving fitness. Weight can be altered to the person's wants for max workout efficiency. Though they can be perilous to someone using them by themselves, they've been proved to work. So long as you are using the correct technique, you can improve your fitness with free weights.

Strength coaching will help you become a faster runner. A recent study showed strengthening exercises helped runners improve their time. Runners who did 8 weeks of weight lifting managed to shave time off their run. The stronger you are the speedier you'll be able to run.

Commence with a clean workout area by sanitizing the equipment prior to starting. The person or folks before you will have left some unhealthy germs. Your goal for going to the gymnasium was to get in some kind of shape, not get ill.
