Top Chef Winners – Where Are They Now? – Career – EzineMark

On the 25th of February, Hosea Rosenberg was declared winner of Top Chef. This was the fifth season of this world-famous show. It doesn’t matter if you are residing outside the United States; you probably know what the show is. It’s hard not to know. It’s even harder not to take notice. These winners end up with $100,000. But does this mean that he or she is bound to join the ranks of Ferran Adria and Alain Ducasse anytime soon? Where are the other winners? What has happened to them?

Harold Dieterle (First Season Winner)

Harold was the winner of the first season of Top Chef. Many would agree that he is the most successful of all the show’s winners. Using the money he won from the show, he opened his own restaurant in New York, the Perilla. Over the last two years, this dining establishment has received steadily good reviews. He has been able to keep his business running since 2007. Curiously, he has shunned the limelight since he won the title. He refuses to attend reunions, and he deliberately avoids association to the show.

Ilan Hall (Second Season Winner)

Prior to being Top Chef second season winner, Ilan was working at Casa Mono. After winning the prize, he left the restaurant and went on a culinary exile. He worked and traveled abroad before he finally settled in Los Angeles. He worked as a private chef before he finally opened his own restaurant, The Gorbles.

Hung Huynh (Third Season Winner)

Prior to joining Top Chef, Hung Huynh worked as Guy Savoy’s executive sous chef. After leaving the show, he accepted an executive chef position at Solo, a Mediterranean restaurant located in New York. He was supposed to be the temporary chef, but his temporary position has seemingly lasted for more than six months now. However, he does intend to set up his own restaurant where he would offer Asian-Mediterranean cuisine.

Stephanie Izard (Fourth Season Winner)

Stephanie has followed in the footsteps of the previous winners. She intends to open her own Chicago restaurant, The Drunken Goat. It is scheduled to open in November of this year. She intends to offer moderately-priced Mediterranean cuisine.

Top Chef has more seasons to go. We can only wonder what will happen to the next winners. Will they live up to the expectations? What about Hosea Rosenberg? Will he open his own restaurant? Will any of these winners join the ranks of the culinary masters one day – or will they always just be the “once-upon-a-time” Top Chef winners?

Review of Race Mixture in the History of Latin America by Magnus …

Magnus Mörner introduces his reader to both concepts and details of the centuries long process of miscegenation, the racial mixing and acculturation, that culminated in the national character of Latin America. This blending over time is awash in regional political, religious, and social intrigue. Whether it be a source of discrimination, the logical effects of assimilation within a geographic area, or simply the result of gender specific immigration, the synthesis and evolution of the Latin American from their three main lineage roots, the Indians, African blacks and the Europeans has a long and storied history.

Mörner points out various aspects of the transitions over time that the miscegenation or the mixing or blending of race in marriage or breeding went through. Though he often remarks that there is little physiological difference to be found that defines the term race, he expresses that the question of the importance of miscegenation in psychological and intellectual terms is “violently discussed.” He thus strikes out in historical contexts to sort out the extent that socioculture that the instituted efforts to promote, ban and likewise control the certain mixing of the “races”.
Race Mixture illuminates the many faceted trials that instigated economic, imperial, social and legal hurdles that Latin Americans of every shade, background and class were entwined by.

One of the more ironic points Mörner brings up is that of the classes and stratification. The book establishes that the class and stratification features in place over various times and regions of Latin America were arbitrary placement and limited by the ability to discern “shades”. It became a matter of “dress and movement” to pass as a higher caste in some instances, a well placed monetary gift in others. It is inconceivable today that there would be detailed policies that dealt specifically with taxation, marriage, military obligation and social stigma attached precariously to something as indiscriminate and subjective as “shade” of skin. Given that he also makes the early point that the domestic Spanish population was well-blended before the New World contact by African Moors, the Jewish and other Europeans, the assumed phenotype, or outward appearance of these Iberians begs to refuted as ethnically pure or superior.

Once done with the roll call of various historical, colloquial and myopically pigeon holing ethnic variants and pursuant bred derivative, assumed or disputed statistics, Mörner moves into what were to become, in my opinion, the most poignant from the current perspective, chapters on the events and changes in the systems and status dealing with the many castes, ethnic classes and cultures that found themselves sharing the Latin world. What was once the basis of religious, imperial and economic policy, was to become not only accepted, but also the norm. Mörner aptly points out in the course of the book that the aforementioned systems, prejudice and discrimination eventually fell away, or were negated over time. That it took such time, economic and social revolution to remove the strictures, prejudice and discrimination based solely upon breeding (that was oftentimes forced or ill granted) is one of humanity’s greatest shames.

Pointedly, I find the word miscegenation oddly suited as the root “mis” is so often identified as meaning wrong, bad and hate of…yet it is the very blending of races that created the unique culture of Latin America that is represented today.

Melbourne Disc Jockeys & You – EzineMark

This is a quick guide for the party organizer of your next event or function.
There are many lists and articles out there both in print and on the internet depicting what you, as a potential customer should be on the look out for when hiring a Disc Jockey for your next function.
This article is different in that it gives equal share of responsibility in hosting/ organizing a joyfully memorable event to both the Disc Jockey of your choice and you as the client.
A Professional Disc Jockey is like any other service person that you interact with in day-to-day life. Treat a professional service person well, communicate your expectations & requirements to them effectively and they will go out of their way to make certain that you and your guests receive great service, its as simple as that.
The worst Disc Jockey is a person who DOES NOT meet your expectations!
A young lady at a party I played at recently asked me (via proxy) if I had a certain song, which I apologetically replied that I didnt have it at the time. The response by the young lady was, Well, He shouldnt be a DJ then. Obviously her expectation or pre-conceived notion did not fit in with reality!
Your expectations are not the issue, communicating them effectively is!
Below is a brief but straightforward list designed to assist you, your event organizer and your DJ in making your next event an event to remember.
1.Never be afraid to ask for something. If you don’t ask, you don’t get.
Regardless of the stories and the hype, Disc Jockeys are not mind readers. All you need to do is ask and if it can be provided it will be provided.
2.Write down a list of 10 things that you expect from your DJ.
For example, be specific about the details of your function, do you want people to dance or is the party more of a cocktail chatting session? Do you want the DJ to be the Life of the Party and engage the group via the microphone or hang back and provide a backdrop? Do you want a MEGA DOOF sound system? Perhaps you like the DJ to be dressed in Formal wear or in Leopard skin print hot pants?
Either way, close your eyes for a minute or two and envisage what the night is going to look like, write it down and email that list to your DJ.
3.Prepare your DJ.
It is not possible to carry every song ever invented, nor is it always viable to just download the song there and then. There may be songs or genres that you absolutely must have or conversely must not be played.
Provide your DJ with a musical playlist, or ask for a playlist that you can fill out and return.

Gratitude – Racehorse Style – EzineMark

Lukas, The World’s Smartest Horse

“Lukas is such a lucky horse – he should be so grateful for everything you’ve done for him.” Gratitude is on everyone’s mind this time of year, especially for me. I receive over one hundred e-mails a day about my horse Lukas from all over the world, and get many comments like the one above. Granted, he’s come a long way since leaving the race track with leg injuries after three forgettable back-of-the-pack finishes. After changing hands several times, he ended up sorely neglected and emaciated in a yard. When I purchased him as a nine-year-old “Inexperienced project horse” from his rescuer, I was hoping to compete him in beginner classes. However, within a month of competition training (by another trainer – I was then working full-time as a nurse), Lukas quickly became resistant and dangerous. He began bucking, bolting and spooking, and was unsafe even in his own stall.

At that low point, I decided to fall back on my trick training experience to try to bridge the gap between us. We started with the smile and as time went on I began to notice a definite improvement in Lukas’ attitude and behavior. He became an eager and willing partner, happy to cooperate and initiate games and our relationship deepened to love. Our lessons progressed from liberty (free/loose) movements to cognitive tasks and we never looked back.

To date, Lukas is able to smile, pose, nod yes, shake his head no, yawn, catch, kiss, fetch, cross his front legs, wave, curtsey, bow, push a cart, passage (like skipping), Spanish Walk (high step), jambette (three legged pivot), act lame, sit, put his legs all together, lay down, rear, stay and come, do pedestal work, play hide and seek and be blindfolded. Most of his acclaim comes from his abilities to spell, count, identify shapes and discriminate colors and he understands object permanence, same/different, spatial relationships, proportion and absentness. Moreover, our bond has received the most attention from animal lovers world-wide.

Lukas has been on NBC, CBS, ABC, CNN, HLN and Inside Edition and the Associated Press and America On Line released feature articles about him. He has been in magazines, newspapers, forums, blogs and newsletters all over the world and his story has been heard on RFD-Radio, Animal Radio, Pet Talk Radio, Pet Talk Live radio and Pet Place Radio among many others. He was nominated for the 2010 Equine Vision Award sponsored by Pfizer and American Horse Publications.

Also, the World Records Academy recognized him as the World’s Smartest Horse and Guinness approved his record “Most numbers correctly identified by a horse in one minute: nineteen.” Lukas is the Spokeshorse for After The Finish Line, a group dedicated to finding homes for ex-racehorses. I n addition, we are associated with the Human-Equine Alliance for Learning (HEAL), a program to aid trauma victims through equine assisted therapy.

His second-edition book Playing With Lukas (available at Amazon) and his stunning Documentary were just released in October 2010 and you can watch it directly at http://bit.ly/WatchLukas.

So, as you may have already guessed, it is I who am grateful to have such an incredible friend.

David Haye going to face Audley Harrison – EzineMark

November 26, 2014 By Leave a Comment

David Deron “The Hayemaker” Haye (born 13 October 1980 in Bermondsey, South London) is a British professional boxer, and current WBA World Heavyweight Champion.

Before joining the heavyweight division, Haye was the unified cruiserweight champion, holding the WBA, WBC, WBO and The Ring magazine cruiserweight titles after notable victories over Jean-Marc Mormeck and Enzo Maccarinelli. Haye’s only professional loss to date was against Carl Thompson in 2004.

Haye won the WBA Heavyweight title with a split decision over Nikolai Valuev, before defending the title against John Ruiz. Since then, there has been much speculation and anticipation concerning a possible bout with IBF, WBO and IBO heavyweight champion Wladimir Klitschko in the near future.

Based in Bermondsey, London, England, Haye turned professional in December 2001, knocking out veteran Tony Booth in two rounds. In 2003 he won 8 fights, 2 of which were in the USA, and won all by knockouts. Haye’s fights were regularly seen on the BBC and his popularity began to grow in 2004, when he dispatched the 39-year-old ex-World champion “King” Arthur Williams in three rounds. In January 2006, Haye signed a three year contract with former Lennox Lewis promoter Frank Maloney in order to further his world title ambitions. He continued to defend his EBU title against all comers, including Ismail Abdoul and future world champions Victor Emilio Ramirez, Giacobbe Fragomeni, and Ola Afolabi.

Haye then confirmed that he would meet the WBA champion Nikolay Valuev on 7 November in the Nuremberg Arena, Nuremberg, Germany with Haye’s trainer Adam Booth claiming it was a fight that Valuev wanted, it was billed as David and Goliath.[7] Haye’s IBA Heavyweight Championship was also on the line. Apparently showing no fear of his 7 foot opponent, Haye said: ““He is the ugliest thing I have ever seen. I have watched Lord of the Rings and films with strange looking people, but for a human being to look like he does is pretty shocking.

Haye beat Valuev in a reserved display of accuracy and efficiency, countering Valuev’s misses, jabbing and circling his much larger opponent. Haye came close to knocking down Valuev again in the final round with a hard left hand, which made Valuev stumble. Haye won with scores of 114-114 (ITA), 116-112 (USA) and 116-112 (ESP).

Haye attended Bacon’s College in Bermondsey, South East London. His training camp is based in Kyrenia, Northern Cyprus and he has worn the “Northen Cyprus flag” on his shorts alongside the Flag of St. George and the Union Flag in the past. David Haye was awarded with the citizenship of North Cyprus due to his contributions to the North Cyprus. Haye is married to Natasha and has a son named Cassius. He supports London football team Millwall. On Wednesday 20 October 2010, he was awarded an honourary doctorate from Anglia Ruskin University, at the graduation ceremony in the Cambridge Corn Exchange.

David Haye will face John Ruiz for mandatory defense of WBA Heavyweight title on 3 April 2010 at MEN Arena, Manchester. David Haye Tickets are available at Sold Out Ticket Market for affordable price.

How It Is Possible To Get Your Children Into Crappie Fishing

November 21, 2014 By Leave a Comment

Fishing is a great pastime, which relieves stress while you like nature. If you read this article and gather the tricks and tips included, you’ll realize that your relaxing journeys can be made far more delightful by catching more fish, so keep on reading to discover how.

Fishing ought to be undertaken with a grouping of folk who get the significance of quiet. Unlike lots of other sports, fishing requires lengthy periods with no sound at all and very little movement. This helps to lure the fish closer to your spot without scaring them off.

A person fishing with bait would be sensible to use a bobber or some variety of indicator while fishing. It can be hard to tell when you get a bite sometimes and a good indicator will eliminate that problem. Choose one that is simply observable to you on the surface of the water.

When you're fishing concentrate on the birds in the area. If you notice birds swooping into a certain area, it is likely that lots of fish will be in that location. Birds just pick up fish by diving down and catching them from the water. If you be aware of how they're behaving, you will likely bring in a lot of fish that day.

If you're fishing on a stream, you need to acknowledge there is going to be a current you have to follow. Rivers are broken down into several pockets of fish, where you should position yourself to catch the highest volume. Positioning your boat in an area that's calm will help maximise your results.

Together with a camera, it is a wonderful idea for catch and release fisherman to carry around a tape measure in their tackle box also. This will enable you to properly measure your fish before you release it, giving you the choice of making a custom fish replica at a later date.

Before purchasing your hooks and bait, think about what size of fish you're counting on catching. The larger the fish, the bigger hooks and bait you'll need, but large bait will be wasted on smaller fish. You may also desire the scale of the weights and bobbers you buy to be in accordance with what you're expecting to catch.

Since having just the right bait is crucial to catching more fish, here is a simple method to tell if you are seeing black or white crappie. White crappie have 6 pricks in their dorsal fin while black crappie have seven or 8. White crappie also have a tendency to have bands across their body while black crappie have a more spotted pattern.

Spinnerbaits and fishing tackle wholesale are easy to use for folks one step beyond using earthworms. This type of lure is ideal for fishermen who regularly fish in shallow, cloudy water or shaded areas. Spinnerbait is typically used to attract bass, but it could also lure crappie.

You must use sizeable bait to catch massive fish. It’s fairly easy. A bigger fish likes a bigger bait and vice versa. Bluegill and Crappie are the best bait for big fish.
