A good friend asked me the other day “why give away your ratings?” The obvious answer was that we are not “giving” away our ratings…it costs $10 per week…but I understand what he was getting at in terms of providing selections/tips.
The human factor
We provide the ratings, we cannot fill in the betting slip. When I worked with trainer Joe Lau in Macau, we would provide a set of Ratings for his owners. The results were crazy. The same set of ratings could go to 5 or 6 owners. On a good day, for me personally, 3 of the owners would win, 2 break-even, and 1 lose. And the next week it would be different – quite random. The only consistent was a bad day – everybody lost, or 1 might scramble a break-even.
An excellent recent example for me personally was Melbourne Cup Day. I gave up on Pikey’s Aussie Ratings after about Race 5, down the toilet for a significant amount of money. He tipped the 88-1 quinella, 12-1 winner, in the very next race, and found a % of the Cup trifecta at $8000. He wins a nice pile, and I have lost my shirt!
Pool sizes
Here in New Zealand the introduction of co-mingling has been a god-send. There is no question this site would never have seen the light of day without co-mingling. Betting pools have more than doubled, with further increases likely, as our Australian counterparts get a taste for the New Zealand product. Betting Slip Example
Experience/Expertise
I taught an associate all my tricks of race replay analysis, and speed maps when I returned to New Zealand…unreservedly and for free. Why you may ask? The bloke seemed a decent enough person, battling to his best. Problem is that to this day doesn’t really know what he is looking at.
What I am saying is if you use the Ratings and information provided, for 12 months, and are still losing on the punt, you probably should find a new hobby. If you follow the information provided long term you should not lose money, and I would be disappointed if you didn’t show a profit.
I am the worst loser on the punt in the world…it is true, ask any of my friends that knew me in Macau. Mostly, I would blame myself, and get quite down. Deep down I knew it made me work harder the next week. But my mentor finally convinced me “if you are good at your job, and you do the work, you will win long term. Sure, there will runs of outs, and bad luck, but over time they will level out.”
And it is true…but I am still not a good loser. Betting Slip Example
