The Pros and Cons of a Ten Cent Pick Six at Gulfstream Park

Gulfstream Park recently announced its new wagering menu for 2011 and the changes have certainly got some tongues wagging.  Horse racing industry insiders will be watching to see if the new bets that will be available to horse players will be a success.  While race track revenues drop around the country, everybody is looking for a way to turn things around and perhaps even bring new people into the sport.  The sport, of course, is horse racing handicapping, an intellectual challenge.

One of the exciting wagers that GP announced is a ten cent pick six bet.  As you probably already know, the pick six is a wager in which the bettor tries to pick the winner of six consecutive races.  When all six winners are not chosen on a single ticket, Some of the pool is disbursed to those who hold a ticket with the highest number of winners.  For instance, if there are seven tickets with five of the winners, then those seven tickets each get an equal share of a consolation pool set aside for the consolation winners.

When the pick six isn’t hit for a few days, pools can sometimes reach dizzying amounts such as a million or more.  Once in a while a lucky horse player actually hits the only pick six winner and pockets the whole pool, minus Uncle Sam’s share, of course.  Exotic bet players dream of hitting the big pick six and when the pools grow, the betting becomes more frenzied and the pools begin to grow faster.  Sounds like a good setup for the race track doesn’t it?  Well maybe yes, and maybe no.

One problem with having all that money in the pool is that it isn’t in circulation at the track.  The way race tracks really make money is on what is known as “churn” in the industry.  Churn is simply the process of betting over and over again until your dollar is nearly gone.  For instance, when you go to the track with $20 and spend $5 on a bet, if you win, you get more than $5 back, but if you lose you lose it all.  Each time you bet, the track takes out 15% or more from your $5.

Even when you are winning, you are still paying that 15%.  Though mathematically speaking, taking 15% from a number over and over again will never completely take all the money, it does gradually wear it down until nothing or next to nothing is left.  While all those dollars are in the pick six pool they are not being bet over and over again by the bettors.  Therefore, it is at the expense of the race track and though they benefit from the advertising and excitement of a large pick six payout, they lose churn which means income.

A ten cent pick six might just fix that problem because with such low betting increments, almost any and all pick six combinations may be hit.  So perhaps, Gulfstream Park is covering an opportunity for bettors large and small to get in on the pick six and to have a fighting chance to actually hit all six winners, but at the same time, maybe they are sacrificing those huge pick six carryovers and the resultant publicity that goes with them.  It will be interesting to see how it all shakes out, but I give credit to Gulfstream Park for trying something different and letting the bettors decide what is best for them with their wagering dollars.

Beth Moore Fairytale Horses-Beth Moore Fairytale … – eye – EzineMark

The Number 1 most significant enhancement that it is possible to make to a horse, is to grow a lengthy, thick, luxurious mane and tail on him or her. In the event the horse has conformational flaws, the elegance for the flowing mane and tail entirely get the awareness off something on the horse that is less than desirable. It not only frames, but just completes the whole horse creating it a stunning sight to behold. This really is the kind of horse fairy tales and dreams are produced of.

Equestrian essentials: All weather surfaces – EzineMark

When you are asked what the most essential elements of equestrianism are all weather surfaces probably will not be the first thing to spring to mind. However you may be surprised to hear that anything from competition venues to training centres and stables need a patch of ground which can be used for some sort of physical activity whether it is sunny, raining or freezing. All weather surfaces are vital for horses to get exercise and to be trained for things like show jumping events.
All weather surfaces are made of synthetic materials rather than using the natural ground. Normal soil is prone to freezing and, especially with the wear and tear incurred with heavy animals like horses, wet weather can lead to it becoming a bit of a quagmire which is unusable. Therefore all weather equestrian surfaces are usually made from some sort of plastic material which is not so susceptible to the elements but feels similar underfoot – or hoof – to normal ground.
Various materials are used when it comes to all weather surfaces. All well as artificial grass made from plastic there are other ingredients that go into the perfect equestrian surfaces. Plastic granules and things like silica sand can be sprinkled liberally on the surface to make it more like natural ground. The latter can usually be sourced from a local quarry and is relatively cheap. Materials are priced by the tonne so the cost of all weather surfaces obviously depends on the physical area of the individual project.
Where can I go to get the best of all weather surfaces?
When looking for things like all weather surfaces there is no substitute for an established name with the right credentials. One company which has been in the business for more than 20 years and has supplied equestrian surfaces to some of the top competition venues and arenas can be found by paying a visit to Manchesterplastics.com. The firm has built up an excellent reputation over the years and is still one of the leading sellers of all weather surfaces in the UK today so get in touch if you are interested in durable equestrian surfaces at unbeatable prices

Aqueduct Race Track Switches to Inner Track – What it Means – speed

There are two surfaces that Aqueduct races are run on other than the turf course.  They are known as the Main Track and the Inner Track.  The main track is used during the season when the weather is more clement while the inner track becomes the venue when winter weather sets in. To seasoned handicappers the switch is an important event and marks the beginning of the winter racing season, regardless of what the calendar may say.

For people who are handicapping the races and trying to pick some winners, there are some important differences between racing on one or the other.  The inner track, because it is contained within the outer or main track, is smaller meaning tighter turns.  This favors early speed and the inside post positions most of the time.

The old saying, “horses for courses,” rings true at Aqueduct.  There are horses who race well over the main track but who don’t fare as well on the winter surface.  Then again, there are horses who race well on the inner track, preferring the speed and rail bias to the more sweeping turns of the main track.  One of the things to look for when handicapping the races at the “Big A,” is horses who are returning to the inner track after some poor performances, but who show success on the inner track in the past.  The switch to the inside may help to move these types forward.

The same, of course, is true of horses who have been racing well and are now switching. If they show that they struggled on the inner track before, then they may not do well and may actually regress.

When handicapping maidens it is particularly important to look for blazing early speed if they are moving to the winter surface.  They may have faded when on the usual surface but will be able to carry their speed farther on the speed favoring track.  When I am looking for winners at Aqueduct I pay more attention to running style and fractional times for the first quarter mile and half mile marks.

Horses with a big advantage in those two categories often build such a lead that the chasers can’t catch them.  The winter surface is often sealed because of inclement weather and that may account for the speed bias.  Whatever the case may be, if you ignore speed in the winter time at the Big A, you’ll get burned.

Kentucky Derby 2012 – Early Contenders by Bloodlines – EzineMark

October 14, 2013 By Leave a Comment

There are always exceptions to the rule, but generally speaking, horses that end up winning the Kentucky Derby come from sires that were able to go that distance effective as well.

Maria’s Mon has been a highly effective sire having produced two Kentucky Derby winners; Monarchos in 2001 and most recently, Super Saver in 2010. According to the Thoroughbred Sports Network book of Sire Stats, the average winning distance for progeny of Maria’s Mon is seven furlongs, which indicates his progeny do best at middle distance races, which makes it all the more remarkable that he would have not one but two sons that have captured the Kentucky Derby.

A.P. Indy is known for being a sire of long distance runners, and his AWD is about a furlong and a half greater than Maria’s Mon. He has never sired a Kentucky Derby winner although he has come close. In 2000, his son Aptitude came in second to Fusaichi Pegasus in that year’s Derby. Attswhatimtalkinbout was a fast closing fourth in the 2003 Kentucky Derby and might have won if he had another six seconds to run them down. Steppenwolfer finished third to Barbaro in the 2006 edition, and Pulpit finished fourth in the 1997 Kentucky Derby.

Dynaformer is also is a highly successful sire, especially at the longer distances. He is the sire of the afore-mentioned Barbaro, and is the sire of 2002 third place finisher in the Derby, Perfect Drift. He is actually more known as a turf sire but many of his offspring do tend to perform just as well on the dirt.

Another sire whose progeny you might want to put on your watch list is El Prado, who sired Paddy O’ Prado, the third place finisher in the 2010 Derby, as well as Medaglia D’oro, who finished fourth in the 2002 Derby after a troubled trip.

The sire of beloved 2004 Kentucky Derby winner, Smarty Jones was Elusive Quality who is not known for producing horses that can go particularly long distances. The average winning distance for his progeny is about 6 ½ furlongs, which indicates he is primarily a sire of sprinters.

The horse that finished runner up to Smarty Jones was Lion Heart, and his sire Tale of the Cat was likewise primarily a sire of sprinters, which makes him somewhat an anomaly as well.

The most famous exception to the rule was probably Secretariat, who was out of the great sire Bold Ruler. Because Bold Ruler was generally a sire of middle distance runners, some questioned whether Secretariat had the stamina to go the 1 ¼ mile distance of the Kentucky Derby after finishing a distant third in the 1 1/8 mile Wood Memorial. Of course, history shows that he could have run all day if it was needed.

When following this year’s two year old crop, other horses to pay attention to are those who are by Smart Strike, Distorted Humor, Giant’s Causeway, Mineshaft, and Candy Ride.

The Triple Crown racing season begins with the Kentucky Derby. It is horse racing’s premier event for 3-year-old horses. When you think of the Kentucky Derby, you think of the best thoroughbreds that have ever competed.

Now imagine building your own virtual Kentucky Derby with Derby winners from previous years. Horse Racing Simulation has a program that offers the opportunity to match up over a hundred past Kentucky Derby champions in simulated races using stunning 3D game graphics. Using a state-of-the-art artificial intelligence program that looks at over 300 traits and attributes of the real horses, users are able to simulate these fantasy races with previous champions with amazing accuracy.

Wouldn’t it be great to see Kentucky Derby winners from the early-1900s compete with some of the more recent champions like Big Brown, Secretariat, Seattle Slew and so many others? This amazing program has over 150 features including a handicapping component that converts the sophisticated past performance data of any race horse into a rich, 3D virtual experience. If you’re not into betting horses, or if you’re not an historian of racing, but you are into social games, consider this the best of all 3D racing games available. Breed, train and race your horses against thousands of other players for real prizes. Truly the best of all online 3D racing games.

Extreme Tipster Review – Is Extreme Tipster A Scam? – Service

October 12, 2013 By Leave a Comment

Is Extreme Tipster a scam? This is a relatively new tipster service site that has generated a lot of interest in the betting community who are looking to find out whether it truly works or not. From my experience, the strategy behind how they select is their horses is based on long term value bets and trying to focus on the longer time frame instead of aiming for huge wins in the short term.

1. Is Extreme Tipster Just Another Tipster Service Website that Picks Favorites?

However, those who are thinking that this is just a simple tipster service that picks the most likely favorites to win in every race would be wrong too. It is already a known fact that the favorites win only an average of 30% of the time, and by using the average odds of favorites, it is easy to see that a punter constantly betting on favorites would still lose money in the long run. Rather, the betting selections can come from any horse as long as the odds of those selections are of good value and produce a profit in the long term.

2. What Are the Benefits of Joining the Extreme Tipster Service Website?

Even though there are many tipster services available online that provide tips for horse racing, most of them overstate their profits while others are outright rehashed old betting systems. Most of the time, those claims about averaging 25 to 50 points are too good to be true. By following a professional tipster service that works, I am essentially outsourcing the work of looking through the statistics and odds every day and paying a small fee for that work to be done for me.

3. Do You Need to Have Any Prior Betting Experience Before Joining Extreme Tipster?

It also removes my emotional judgment from affecting my decisions, which is a factor that causes punters to lose more money when they allow their emotions to cloud their logical thinking. Punters who are much less experience and want to get started by maximizing their profits can also join a good tipster service and start off on a winning note. In the long term, this tipster service has proven that it always comes out with a profit statistically due to its successful value betting method.

Review of What Happens When You Sign Up at Extreme Tipster

This is essentially an email tipster service whereby the professional behind it, Tim Jones, sends out his daily selections via email and also puts them up on his website in the membership area.

Double Your Chances of Making a Profit At the Horse Races With …

October 2, 2013 By Leave a Comment

If you are one of the many people who are handicapping horse races and trying to make a profit, you would probably like to be able to double your profit without too much work.  The easiest way to do that is right under your nose. Before we discuss how to increase your profit, or perhaps to start actually making a profit, let’s talk about your record keeping.

Most of us don’t like the arduous task of keeping records, especially when we are playing the ponies.  For one thing, it takes a lot of fun out of it and secondly, it is a lot of tedious work.  This is where you have to make a decision. Are you a recreational horse player who just wants to wager on races and have some fun, or are you a serious horse player who wants to make a profit?  If you are doing it just for fun, then set aside an amount of money you can afford to lose and have a ball.

On the other hand, if you are trying to make it pay, you’d better keep track of the money.  Picking winners is fun, but finding good bets is how you actually succeed at horse racing handicapping. How will you know whether you’re doing a good job of it if you don’t know which bets that you make are profitable and which ones are losers?  Being able to eliminate bets that don’t show a profit is one quick way to increase your r.o.i., return on investment.

Now here is another way to increase profits dramatically and it only takes a few minutes.  First of all, find out how much each bet costs.  I don’t mean the amount that you risk, but rather the amount the track takes out of the pool.  The percentage of takeout, or vig as it is sometimes called, varies from track to track and state to state.  Paying over 20% at one track and around 15% at another can have a big impact.

Let’s say you make a profit of 10% and you’re playing at a track that charges 21% on the bets you make, moving your action to a track that charges 15% increases your results by 5%, which just happens to be a 50% increase in your profit.  That’s right, just by playing at a different track you may actually be able to increase your profit.

You will also be voting for a lower takeout with your money.  If enough horse players do that and handles change according to the takeout, state lawmakers who set those figures will start to pay attention and start treating us as consumers and customers rather than thinking of us as sheep who can be easily led and who will accept whatever is given to us.

How to write a horse boarding business plan – small business

September 25, 2013 By Leave a Comment

Your horse boarding business plan is a detailed description that describes your horse boarding business with its objectives and shows how those objectives ought to be achieved.

It’s a critical tool for gathering finance, including – bank overdrafts, loans and venture capital.

The business plan should be made bespoke for the likely lender or the financier. The substance of the business plan should replicate the potential interests of the lender and persuade support for your horse boarding business venture.

Once complete, your business plan also provides a powerful tool for scrutinizing the progress of your horse boarding business. It will assist you to focus on the objectives set up in the plan.

You must keep your investor’s attention by making the document as reader friendly as possible. Use uncomplicated, direct language and graphics to illustrate your ideas. Make sure your copy reflects the unquestionable approach of the management team. In spite of this, it is advisable to be realistic while presenting financial forecasts.

Endeavor to make the horse boarding business plan as upbeat as possible but don’t shy away from any palpable troubles there might be in setting up your horse boarding business as your financier will more than likely think of them anyway; so if you can get their first and reply to the likely questions before they think of them so much the better.

Lay out your business plan in a reasonable style along with clear and accurate headings – don’t be worried to waste paper – start new headings on a clean fresh piece of paper – it will make the article look more authoritative and make it easy to find stuff for your investor.

Keep all the figures between the main body of the document and your appendices – if you put large sections of figures in the body of your document you will distract your investor from the flow of the plan.

If your business is a new venture then give background information as to why you intend to start it. State the considerable advantages of your product or service. Point to probable markets and explain your pricing policy and selling strategies. Identify the competition and outline your proposals for dealing with it. Be positive and quick to the point.

Make apparent the know-how and awards of you and your management team and show how their skills can be harnessed to obtain growth potential and profitability.
