Winning Horse Racing Tips for Watching Horses and People in the …

It was a hot day at Tampa Bay Downs and the upcoming race was a stinker.  I couldn’t find a horse to make a case for and decided I’d take a look at the runners in the saddling ring to see if anything would jump out at me.  As I leaned against the fence the horses slowly circled in front of me and I realized that they all looked uniformly mediocre.  As the seven horse passed, the jockey quickly and covertly flashed three fingers to the guy standing beside me.

The way he shielded his hand from view made me realize it was meant for the man to my left.  The man immediately rushed off to the teller’s window and made a bet.  I was right behind him.  I bet the three to win.  Not a big bet, but enough to make it interesting.  It was one of the few times in my life that I took a tip and acted on it.

The three was at 7-1 when they went to post and he won for fun.  Now first of all, in the tipping jockey’s defense, I’d like to say that his horse was a long shot that didn’t figure, so I don’t think there was any skullduggery on his part.  He was giving his friend a tip, probably based on the fact that he knew more about the horses than the rest of us.  At least, that’s what I’d like to believe.

Whatever the case may be, standing at the fence and watching the people and horses had resulted in a nice win for me.  If I hadn’t been there, it wouldn’t have happened.  One of the least utilized, but most powerful handicapping methods, is simply to be an observer.  If you’re going to bet on horses and the people who train and ride them, then you should know how to spot a lame horse and also how to spot a horse that is fit and ready.

The cheaper the race, the more important this visual handicapping becomes.  Naturally, in a stakes race for big money, the horses almost always look great, but in the bottom of the barrel claiming and non winners races, current condition means everything.  Past performances are just that, “past.”  The race will take place today so the condition of the horse matters now.  The cheaper the quality of the stock, the less likely each runner is to keep its form.

Trainers struggle every day to keep their horses fit and squeeze as many wins as possible out of each one and it is an epic battle.  Therefore, a sharp handicapper often spots a horse that is on its toes or who looks good based on its weight and the shine of its coat and other factors.  The first time you see a horse make some notes.  Then the next time you see it, compare notes.  Is it better, worse, or about the same?

A very good angle is a horse in cheap claiming races that has won at the track and distance in the past.  You notice that it looks lackluster, perhaps you might even say dull, the firs time you check it out in the paddock.  It runs a dull race that day finishing out of the money. The next time you see it, however, it looks much better.  Its head is held high and it is on its toes, its coat gleaming.  You know it won at this level before and now you know it is improving.  It may not win, but it figures to at least finish in the money.

The people who rely strictly on the past performances will not know that the horse is improving based on its last race.  The only way to spot that change will be to actually view it in the paddock.  That gives you an edge and that is how you win when you’re handicapping horse races for profit.

Horse Racing Tipsters to Win Horse Racing Bets

The history of tipsters in horse racing is as old as old is the history of horse racing itself. Like any other kind of betting, in horse racing betting too there are certain tips that can be used to win a bet. There are some professionals who have vested interest in horse racing; over the years these professionals inculcate instinct and knack for horse racing winning tips and can predict precisely which horse is going to win a particular race. Horse racing tipsters come up with highly useful information on competing horses and their winning likelihood. Tipsters have their own skills and methods to gain information on the horses and trainers.

Hiring a Horse Racing Tipster

Horse racing betting has been in existence for quite long and considered a favorite pastime rich and upper class men. Often shown in films, horse racing attracts industrialists and business tycoons who come and bet on horses. The so called an amateur practice has later on become a profession and now there are several horse race competitions held every year in England. Now, horse racing and gambling have become inseparable part. The legalization of horse racing betting has only helped in expanding the trade in size and operation.

There are three kinds of betting on race horses i.e. Bet to Win, Bet to Place, Bet to Show. Whereas betting on a horse achieving first position is Bet to Win, betting on the horse coming on a certain position is bet to place. The third kind of betting on horse i.e. bet on show is done on the horse that comes in top three. A tipster provides information on the competing horses, trainers, past winners, new trainings imparted to competing horses, any striking factor with respect to winning horse, key information on the fitness of horse, etc. to clients.

Modus Operandi of Horse Racing Tipsters

Like any other professionals, tipsters too have certain skills that they master over the years out of their experience. They develop a modus operandi which is particular to them only. Whereas some tipsters hobnob with influential horse race organizers and gain classified information, some others get onto conclusion on easily available information and analysis thereon. There are certain risks with the tipsters who have close links with high society in horse racing i.e. any illicit term can cause legal trouble. Hiring a tipster who does not have any such affiliation is recommended.

Horse Racing Betting and Its History

Horse racing is one of mankind’s oldest sporting events.  It originated from the nomadic tribes in Central Asia who were the first people to domesticate horses.  However, the current form of horse racing we see nowadays had its roots from medieval times.  It was during the 12th century when English knights returned from the Crusades and brought with them Arab horses.  The Arab stallions were then mated to English mares and the result was the Thoroughbred breed, boasting a superb mixture of endurance and speed.  Due to its excellent features, Thoroughbred horses were very costly and only the nobility were able to afford them.  Later on, aristocrats began wagering among themselves on private horse races.  This was how horse racing became known as the Sport of Kings.  It was only during the 16th century that horse racing became open to the common public, with audience members placing stakes on their favorites.  Soon after, public racecourses were constructed and horse racing rules became regulated by professional organizations.  Horse racing betting also began to intensify in status.  In the early 1900s, a ban on gambling and bookmaking was enacted which almost destroyed horse racing.  The establishment of pari-mutuel betting in 1908 rescued the ailing business, and soon after the noble sport of horse racing began to flourish once again.

Horse racing betting has its own set of rules and its betting system strategies also use its own unique lingo.  These may be hard to comprehend initially but avid fans of horse racing can effortlessly utilize them to gain profits on a well-loved pastime.  An understanding of the lingo can really help anyone who has ever been to the race tracks. And for those who are planning to engage in this type of sport, you need to understand how the betting system in a horse race works.  In pari-mutuel betting, all bets placed on a race are collected and a certain percentage is deducted to cover for the track’s taxes, prize money, and other expenses.  The remainder of the pool is then distributed among the winning bettors.  There are many different types of bets you can place at a race, or even several races.

It is important that you are familiar with all the different jargons racing enthusiasts and professionals use.  Terms such as “win”, “place”, “show”, “perfect”, “trifecta”, “superfecta”, “wheeling”, “keying”, “boxing”, “pick three”, “pick six”, “daily double”, and “twin trifecta” among others can be surely perplexing to novices but is used on a daily basis on any given race track.  If you are a beginner in horse racing betting, it is better to place your stake on a likely winner and to stick to simple or straight bets. Exotic bets may have bigger payoffs but the chances of success are very slim.  Another sound advice for beginners is to focus on a single race course and study the records of horses and riders.  Familiarity with the history and statistics of horses and jockeys play an important role in choosing a winning pair.  Most of all set a limit for your losses.  Gambling is still a risky business but being a responsible gambler can assure you that going to the tracks remains an enjoyable event.

Safe Pony Riding Is Today’s Norm

I do not endorse riding with your intelligence full of scared images of falling off or meeting with some other sort of accident. I subscribe to the concept you can entice providence, and if you do so , providence is going to let itself be enticed.

All of that does not always mean, though, that you shouldn’t take precautions of the kind that will allow you to ride with a tension-free mind.

Precautions means getting your horse and yourself as accident-proof as you can. It suggests going through a pre-ride check list that covers items like condition of tack items, snugness of fit on pony, clothing sported by rider and the like. Talking about clothing sported by the rider, you’ll want to make it a routine to ride only with the proper riding boots or heeled paddock boots, not with the latest product in tennis shoes. You will also wish to ride with attire on that will not snag on any of the tack and a snug helmet.

I’ve known plenty of western riders to keep away from wearing helmets. It is simply not in perfect harmony with the “macho” picture of the western man. I myself took a long while to choose wearing one. Before I started wearing helmets regularly on ordinary rides, the only times I sported a helmet was at English hunter and dressage shows. I once found helmets hot, uncomfortable and expensive. I also found them most less than suitable from the viewpoint of fashion. In my early days, I didn’t bother reading much about riding injuries and how they might be prevented.

We no longer live in those times. More sense is prevailing nowadays. Developments like the internet have helped hugely, because info is now available freely and instantly on the high prevalence of head injuries in riding accidents. It goes without saying that head wounds afflict riders without helmet the most, and the level of experience of the rider doesn’t appear to make much difference. While fractured bones can be set and be corrected, though at the price of some time, head wounds can be far harder and can cause severe life-long difficulties.

Since I became aware about the benefits of wearing helmets while riding, I have taken some interest in horse riding accidents. I have come across plenty of folk, essentially I personally am one of them, who got direct hits on their heads while riding without helmets. I have also learned that the occurrence of significant head injuries is radically reduced when helmets enter the picture.

Because you are an expert pony rider doesn’t suggest you can successfully avoid falls. Horses can stumble or slip unexpected and tumble with their riders. They can also buck suddenly at some possible threat that suddenly turns up in their paths. I had a buddy who snagged her leg on a vine while riding and was dragged off as her unknowing pony kept going forward. Though she first landed on her buttocks, momentum took her down all the way and she banged her head on the ground. She was fortunate to get away with mild concussion and mild internal bleeding that hospitalised her for over 3 weeks. She had to keep away from work for some considerable time, Her incident give her limited absentmindedness, and she suffered the fate that makes most devoted pony riders shudder: she couldn’t bear the idea of riding a pony any more.

Helmets are no longer boring affairs of the same standard shape. They come in a massive array of looks, designs, cost and comfort. They are so well designed re ventilation they’re basically cooler than hats. They also protect the rider from the sun and from the most likely serious sequences of a fall. You should opt for helmets that are ASTM/SEI authorized. These helmets come in a stunning variety of colours and designs. They’ve a lot of covering, and are available for specific head configurations and dimensions.

When you take the right precautions, items like helmets comprise an asset you can use for a long time to come.

Bitless Pony Training

Most horse folks accept the bit as a obligatory instrument that’s usually used when training, riding or driving a horse. But does, invariably, actually mean that bits are essential?

Not really. Don’t know if you’ve ever witnessed the fabulous sight of horsemen riding the California and Vaquero styles, but they use no bits? At least, not until such time as their horses are assumed past their prime.

I often hear and read somebody claiming that ‘I get more control with the bit’ I even saw a horse forum post once advising readers on the best bits to use with halters to maintain ‘more control’, do you really want to know what bits? My answer is NONE! I have addressed the issue of pony control in another article. I think about this issue to be of great criticality.

Before going on to anything more, I begin with 2 long lines on each horse I handle. That also suggests I chuck in 2 rings, a surcingle and a halter with the long lines. Almost inevitably, my first coaching is on stops. I take the horse on a slow walk and at some particular point command him to stop with a ‘Whoa!’ I stop walking myself, and that means the pony continues on into the longs lines and the halter. This applies strain on the horse’s nose. He comes to a stop, and I ease off the pressure.

It has been my experience that no horse ever took more than a day to work out that it was far smarter to stop immediately at the command ‘Whoa!’ than to keep on on and grind into the halter and the lines. I achieve twin objectives with this: I assert an oral command’s domination and I teach the horse to respond to very slight pressure.

Is it actually possible to ride a pony with merely a halter? It is pretty much possible , though there may not be much to show by way of elegance.

You can resort to either the, Hackamore, or the Bosal. I am biased in favour of the Spanish-looking Bosal. If you trained your horse with long lines, you should find this a breeze. The basic trick’s to train your horse to respond to the lightest pressure.

This also allows you to surmount some problems associated with bits.

Unless you are a perfect rider with long experience, you would tend to apply pressure on the bit unwittingly. That clearly makes it extremely uncomfortable and confusing for your pony. When you’re starting out with a pony, it won’t give you perfect stops immediately. That compels you to heap on some pressure. This in turn leads to the pony giving more attention to the discomfort it feels than to your cues.

Possibly the biggest disadvantage of bits is that riders have a tendency to rely completely on them, and sooner or later they lose their efficacy because the horses get inured to them. To compensate, riders use bits with increased leverage, leading to another cycle that ends in futility.

You achieve great coordination when you train horses without bits because they reach much greater sensitivity.

Kentucky Derby Picks for Horse Racing's Premiere North American …

While the Belmont, Preakness, Breeder’s Cup Classic in the United States, and the Queen’s Plate, Prince of Wales, and Breeder’s Stakes in Canada may all be great North American stakes races, the most anticipated and watched is the Kentucky Derby. On the first Saturday in May the race for three year olds is held at historic Churchill Downs in Kentucky.

There are Derby prep races such as the Fountain of Youth and Sunland Derby, just to name two, that help the young horses earn enough to qualify for a shot at the Derby. They’re all good races and help the fans and horse players who want to have a winner in the Derby begin to handicap and choose their selections. If you follow those races you may be able to pick a winner, too, but be careful because very few horses that look the best going into the big race look the best when it’s over. Favorites have a way of failing in the big race.

That leads to how to handicap the race and how to pick a winner. Here are a few Kentucky Derby Tips. First of all, breeding is especially important and you need a horse that can run the classic distances. The great front runner Shackleford demonstrated the importance of breeding when he came up a little short in the Derby at 1 3/16 miles, but came back and won the Preakness at the shorter distance that he was bred for. So use Dosage, or the ratings that the past performances supply to rate the horses for distance. Take the top 5 horses as your initial contenders.

Now comes the tricky part of your handicapping and it’s one of the big secrets of successful horse racing handicapping. You need to figure out which of the contenders who are bred for the distance are about to peak physically. Some of the three year olds will have turned in great performances in those prep races but the problem is that they’ve now peaked and may even be losing some of their form. Rather than focusing on horses who won those prep races, look for the horses who finished in the money and earned enough to get into the big one without burning themselves out and without peaking.

Those races helped them to develop character and stamina and they are maturing, but they weren’t quite ready to win. The form cycle is simply the growth rate and conditioning curve that all athletes and developing bodies go through. Other than racing luck and breeding, the form cycle is the most important factor in picking a Derby winner. Put breeding and form together and pray for luck and you may cash a nice ticket on the first Saturday in May.

Tailor Lunge Equipment To Your Horses

If you are working with an item of pony apparatus, the very first thing you wish to do is get an excellent idea of what the standard or recommended settings for that item are.

This applies enormously to lunging equipment. It is extremely important that you’ve got a complete grip on the best fit, particularly if you have several horses and only one or two hardware kits, as is often the case. Sharing must be steered clear of in yards or pastures with masses of horses, as skin conditions may be transferred. If we are talking about a private yard with just two or three horses, sharing lunging equipment may not be a major issue The issue arises that arise though are because unlike any other gear, lunge rollers and lunge cavesson are terribly flexible and adaptable and are capable of working with a large number of horses.

It is smart to have the slip head under the cavesson when lunging equipment is being fitted on. The slip head bit must sit such that it causes a small wrinkle in the horse’s mouth corners. If you use your fingers to make a contact with the bit, there should be no significant movement of the cheek pieces. Where the cavesson is concerned, nose bands must be separated by the width of 2 fingers from the base of either side’s cheekbone. This way the nose bands aren’t allowed to rub against the cheekbone, nor can they slide downward and meddle with the animal’s breathing. The nose band must be fastened firmly without being constrictive: you have to be able to slip in 2 fingers at the front and the back. If the nose band is too tight, it’ll cause lots of discomfort to the pony. A lot of lunge cavessons come with a 2nd strap that goes on just below the jaw. This strap should be tied firmly; when too loose, it’ll cause the cavesson to slide round while lunging is in progress.

Lunge rollers are rather straightforward uncomplicated stuff. They fit in just at the back of the withers, at about the point where a saddle’s front would sit. A correctly trimmed pad or piece of saddle cloth may be inserted beneath the roller to maximize comfort. Try and get the lunge roller girth even on both sides. Ideally, it should be at the half way position on each side to stop pinching.

You can lunge with other items like a saddle and bridle on the pony, but you must ensure the stirrups are secured such that they don’t keep crashing against the sides of the pony. You should also take care about the intensity of any contact when you lunge with a bridle, because the lunge line goes straight to the mouth of the horse and thus may be much more harsh than just a cavesson. You may use this solution, though, with ignorant or extraordinarily strong horses. It is advisable that you talk over all angles with your coach, and customise your lunging equipment to suit each individual horse. You need to follow the same principle with training aids and pretty much all the other horse rigs. There are variations in the hundreds or perhaps thousands, and each difference incorporates its own distinct action and mechanism. Ensure you are fully informed of how each rig works and discuss it first with any expert you find at the tack shop you made your acquisition of that rig from. Then ask your trainer.

Ultimately, keep in mind when fitting on lunge rigs that the quality of material you are using will have a bearing on the fit. Just to name an example: leather lunge cavessons when correctly worked in get into a snug fit that helps prevent chafing. But nylon and webbing are similarly appropriate, so try and keep your options open. Make your final calls according to your specific requirements.

Irrespective of which lunging rig you choose, confirm it is appropriate for your pony. Give its fit, both in motion and at halt, an in depth examination. You may wish to get some other people also to have a look over all of it for you, just in case you missed out on something somewhere. If the consensus is that the fit is great, then commence your lunging sessions with your horse content that he’s experiencing no discomfort with his new rig.

Profits From Horse Racing

The  honest truth is that many people regard making a decent regular income from horse race betting is impossible or something that they need to have long experience in this field. In fact I believe that anyone can make regular profits by building up their betting tank and increasing their betting levels in accordance with their betting tank. You can get this with discipline and patience. I also recommend that you learn the logic of betting to give yourself a good start to build from, I have gathered some brilliant training information to help you with these steps.

The first step  to success is in act like a Betting Pro, you must have clear options, each and every day, you must understand that in order to make profits there will be losing run as well winning run.  The fundamental rules of betting like a pro is that betting on horses is similar to any business where you are awarded for right decision you make and get punished for wrong decisions.I have seen people come to betting field with lot of enthusiasm but after few losing runs pack up and disappear. This is not the right approach.

Which race type to back:The fact is every types of race has great chances of making profit. One has to apply right approach. It is no good backing a horse in handicap race with 18 runners which has half the field with chance of winning the race. You have to be selective.Selection has to be the one with clear cut winning chance. There are good reason behind this selsection. There are lot of pointers. For instance a horse who was second in his previous handicap race and was favorite has far more better chance to win then a horse with short price favorite who in running for the first time.

Value Betting:Value betting is always related to past performance of a particular horse. If horse was a favorite in the last race and finished second(the winner was a group horse running for first time in a handicap race) is a value bet.One has to check and learn that odds plays a major part in any horse racing betting situation.

Your Betting Bank: Before you start your betting business you must have sufficient betting tank. You must put money aside just for betting purposes.(alway bet what you can afford to lose.If you follow this golden rule you understand psychology behind horse racing betting game)

Stake:You must have a staking plan. For instance if you have a betting bank of $500,your regular stake should be $25 at 3/1.This way you can afford to sustain a losing run of 20 bets before you have to add more funds.I must stress that losing run of 10 to 16 are common and winning run can be the same.So you see this situation.Horse betting is wonderful game with great profit pontials.
