People of any age can enjoy bingo, since it is an easy game to play. All you need to do in this game is mark the numbers on your card when they are called out by the moderator. Usually, a player has to have all the numbers on his card marked to win. In internet bingo, players’ numbers have to be arranged in a certain pattern in order for them to win. Winning patterns can be complex, like signs or shapes of objects, or simple like a straight line.
The pattern you have to create may depend on the kinds of bingo games you are playing and the free bingo site you choose. In general, bingo patterns are divided into three types – static, crazy and wild. Static patterns are set patterns that do not change in any way, so you can win only after all the squares in the pattern are marked on your card. The crazy patterns are those that can be rotated 90, 180 or 270 degrees to create the winning pattern in a different direction. The wild patterns (six-pack or nine-pack) are basically scattered patterns, which are static but can be located anywhere on the card.
The most common bingo pattern a player would find is the single line pattern, in which all numbers in a vertical, horizontal, or single line must be marked. All numbers in any two horizontal lines must be marked in double line patterns. The simplest pattern, known as the coverall pattern, requires you to mark all of the numbers on the card to win. These linear patterns are usually found in the European version (90-ball) of the game, although coverall is common to all types of online bingo.
As all the squares on the American bingo card are filled with numbers, the number of winning patterns you can make on it are more than the number of patterns that can be made on the European bingo card. Although this makes the American variant more exciting than the European version, the complexity of the patterns in the American variant reduces your probability of winning.
The most popular patterns in 75-ball bingo games include the B and O, Double Cross, alphabet, jail bar (B, N and O), postage stamp, airplane, arrow, four corners, pyramid etc. In the B and O pattern, the first (B) and the last (O) vertical lines on the card have to be marked off. In the double cross pattern, the two numbers around the middle numbers of columns I and G, and all numbers under “N”, must be marked. The jailbar pattern needs the player to mark all the numbers in the columns B, N and O.
Certain patterns like the airplane, alphabets (X, F, L, and T) and pyramid need you to cover the squares to create a pattern that resembles the defined shape. Postage stamp pattern covers the four numbers in any corner of the card, and four corner pattern means that you just have to mark the squares in the four corners to win.
