Emily Watson and the 'War Horse' Role

Emily Watson is the face in Steven Spielberg’s upcoming film.  On one hand she feels deeply for her grandmother’s brother who was shot dead when she (her grandmother) was just 12. She is also grieved extremely about the fact that there are millions of families who feel the same grief. “War Horse” she says talks about this grief. The film she reported is set against the backdrop of World War I.

Ms Watson is the farmer’s wife in the film, and is also a mother of a soldier in his teens. The soldier is determined to find his horse that preceded him in the war, he is named Joey. Ms Watson feels deeply for the war and the pain it left in everybody’s hearts. The war she added was indeed a “bruise on national psyche, with repercussions that can never be erased.

Recalling her role in the film and how far her role was justified for the title, she says it was negligible. But adding further she said that she finds no reason for so many young men being wiped out during the War. The entire world history changed she said.

Ms Watson also said that the way the horses were handled in the film was incredible. She was glad that she had little to do with the horses, as she is very scared of them. Ms Watson recalls watching the film under extremely stressed pregnant days. While watching she said she was too unsure of the trauma, as the movie talks of separation.

War horse is the first film for Jeremy Irvine, and it was Ms Watson who took the trouble of consoling and helping the new comer of wading through the scenes. Ms Watson has never shunned away from the fire that cinema bears, and has always proved herself as a competitive person.
