Hosting a Kentucky Derby Betting Party

It’s month of May, and it is time for Kentucky Derby betting. Whenever you heard the word Kentucky Derby, things such as elaborate hats, mint juleps and of course, horses may surely come in your mind. Horse fans and bettors get together at the Churchill Downs in Louisville, Kentucky, for the annual Kentucky Derby. But if you can’t make it to Churchill Downs, don’t you worry as you can still enjoy and have fun with game by hosting a Kentucky Derby party for your family and friends, and make them feel as if they are really in the actual place and event.

Here are some tips on how you will host a Kentucky Derby betting

1. Invite your family and friends, and tell them to dress up for your Kentucky Derby betting party. Big, ornate hats featuring flowers are good wear for women and pair it with a pastel sundresses. On the other hand, men can don their finest seersucker or light-colored suit. Dressing in your Southern best adds a bit of festivity to the party and this can truly make your guess feel like they are at the Churchcill Downs.

2. To increase your guests’ interest on the party, you can also set up a red carpet and let your guess choose who has the best hat and who has the best dressed. They can write their bets on a slip of paper. Let them choose 3 winners and place a corresponding number for their top 3 choice- 5 points for the first place, 3 points for the second placer and 1 point for the third. Give prize for the winner of these competitions.

3. It is a good idea to inform your guess to arrive early so they can still study the horses. Provide them a “Daily Racing Form” so the guess will be able to leaf through it and decide on their top horses picks.

4. Serve traditional Kentucky dishes such as Kentucky hot brown, fried chicken, hush puppies, crab cakes or any other Southern foods.

5. Prepare cocktails for adult guess like serving mint juleps. Here’s how you can make a perfect mint julep: Combine approximately 5 mint leaves, a little water, and 1 tsp. sugar. Use the end of a spoon to mash them together in the bottom of a glass. Add crushed ice and 2 ounces of Kentucky bourbon to the glass. Stir together.
