Horse Racing Television Schedule for Santa Anita Winter-Spring Meet

Excellent news for Southern California race fans. Every weekend of Santa Anita’s 75th anniversary winter-spring meet will be broadcast live on KVMD Los Angeles through an agreement between the independent station and HRTV, the national cable-based horse racing network.

The Santa Anita winter-spring meet opens Dec. 26 and runs through Sunday, April 22. In addition to the wall-to-wall weekend coverage, KVMD will also broadcast Santa Anita’s opening day card in special bonus coverage.

“HRTV is delighted to serve racing fans in Southern California with their ‘hometown’ races,” said HRTV President Scott Daruty. “We are confident viewers will enjoy the other fine action from across the country that HRTV regularly covers, as well as the opinions and insight of our on-air racing experts.”

KVMD is available throughout the Los Angeles market on over-the-air channel 31. It is also available through DirecTV, DISH Network, and all cable and telecom operators in Los Angeles County, Ventura County, the Inland Empire and Orange County, according to an HRTV press release.

KVMD will air live programming from HRTV from 2:30 to 5 p.m. Pacific time every Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Bonus coverage of opening day will also be available during that time slot.

Santa Anita’s opening day feature race is the Grade 1 Malibu Stakes for 3-year-olds. A strong cast is lining up for the seven-furlong sprint, including the lightning-quick Bob Baffert runner The Factor and two promising colts from the powerful Steve Asmussen stable—Rothko and Wine Police. There will also be three other stakes races on opening day—the Grade 2, $150,000 Sir Beaufort Stakes, $100,000 California Breeders’ Champion Stakes and the $100,000 California Breeders’ Champion Stakes for fillies.

HRTV provides live racing coverage 24 hours a day, seven days a week from more than 50 racetracks around the U.S. and worldwide. In addition to Santa Anita, other major tracks on HRTV include Gulfstream Park, Churchill Downs, Fair Grounds, Aqueduct, Laurel Park and many others.

In addition, Santa Anita will be featured each week on HBO.  Santa Anita is the host facility utilized for HBO’s new upcoming series “Luck”.  A significant portion of the HBO series “Luck” was filmed at various locations around Santa Anita Park, including the grandstands, the barn area, training track, clubhouse and others.
