I hope that everyone by now has come to understand which cartoon famous pair is being referred to. Yes! It’s the world famous duo of Tom and Jerry. In the ‘Tom and Jerry’ cartoons, Tom is depicted as a mischievous fat cat and Jerry as a smart mouse. The only motto of Tom’s life is to catch jerry and to take revenge, because Jerry keeps on provoking Tom to do so. It is such a popular cartoon series that people from every age group love to watch it. It’s the simplicity of the character of the two that attracts people towards them. In the ‘Tom and Jerry’ cartoon series, the music plays a vital role. It is the background music that adds on to the beauty of this cartoon series.
The history of ‘Tom and Jerry’ cartoon began in London. Lots of people thought that America was the birth place of this famous cartoon. It was a time when printing became famous and everyone wanted to read new things. But printing materials could only serve the people who are educated. So people who were not literate basically, felt a strong need for some alternative medium to meet their requirements. It was in the Georgian Era that the historical journey of Tom and Jerry actually began.
One of the famous journalists of that era was Pierce Egan. By the time he was forty he had built his reputation as the leading reporter of sporting events; fights, horse racing and boxing matches were his specialty; but the hunger for success never ends. This journalist created a title called “Life in London or, the Day and Night Scenes of Jerry Hawthorn, esq, and his elegant friend, Corinthian Tom accompanied by Bob Logic, the Oxonian, in their rambles and Sprees through the Metropolis”. Though it consisted of human characters, it was so popular that other publishers produced pirated versions of it and it was turned into a stage play. By this point the extremely lengthy title had been stripped down to what we see today “Tom and Jerry or Life in London.”
Only after a century, the idea of two lovable rogues and their adventures crossed the Atlantic and became another huge hit. But the characters of two men were replaced by a cat and a mouse, what we know today as Tom and Jerry. Picking the idea of Pierce Egan, William Hanna and Joseph Barbera Created Tom and Jerry cartoon series. Hanna and Barbera subsequently formed their own studio, creating such legendary shows as The Flintstones, The Jetsons, Top Cat, Scooby Doo and Yogi Bear, to name just a few. Even today, a good portion of the world considers the Tom and Jerry cartoon series to be the best cartoon ever created.
